Questions
If your question is not here, ask it on an information call. We would rather answer it properly than have you guess.
No. Life Planning is not a reserved legal activity and does not require a practising certificate. LifeWise training gives you what you need to do the role properly, which includes knowing exactly where your role stops. Regulated work is referred to authorised professionals.
No. You help a client understand what their will needs to achieve, gather the information accurately, and introduce them to a will writer or solicitor who drafts it. Drafting is not part of the Life Planner role.
No. In England and Wales, carrying out probate activities for reward is a reserved legal activity under the Legal Services Act 2007 and may only be done by an authorised person. Life Planners introduce families to authorised probate practitioners and support them around that process, for example by having the estate information already organised.
You refer. Advising on investments, pensions and insurance requires FCA authorisation, and tax planning belongs with a qualified adviser or accountant. Recognising those moments quickly is a core part of your training, and having somewhere good to send them is part of what LifeWise provides.
Most people complete core training and accreditation in around eight weeks working at a steady pace alongside existing commitments. You can go faster. Going live locally usually happens in the following month.
Yes, and many people start that way. Life Planning can be delivered in person, online or by telephone, so it fits around other work. Building it into a full-time income takes longer and requires sustained effort.
No. You are a self-employed business owner. You are responsible for registering with HMRC, your own tax, your own insurance and your own business decisions. LifeWise provides the training, systems, brand and support.
Professional indemnity insurance, and registration with the Information Commissioner's Office as a data controller because you will be handling significant amounts of personal information. Both are covered in your training, and we will tell you the expected costs before you commit.
You will be given the full fee schedule in writing on your information call, before you are asked to spend anything. There are training and ongoing platform fees, plus your own business costs such as insurance and marketing.
We cannot tell you, and anyone who does should worry you. Income depends on your effort, your local market, your existing network and your ability to build relationships. The calculator on our income page lets you model scenarios using your own assumptions. It is an illustration, not a forecast.
LifeWise provides training, systems, brand and support to self-employed Life Planners operating in agreed territories. The precise legal structure of the agreement, and what it does and does not commit you to, will be set out in the documentation you receive before signing anything. Take your own independent advice on it.
Your income comes from serving clients. LifeWise is a professional network, not a recruitment scheme, and your earnings are not built on introducing other planners.
Selected territories may be offered to accredited planners. A territory means LifeWise directs local enquiries to you and you focus your presence there. It does not prevent a client elsewhere choosing to work with you. Availability is shown on our territories page and is reviewed periodically.
No. LifeWise operates in England and Wales only, and that is a deliberate scope rather than a temporary one. Scotland uses Continuing and Welfare Powers of Attorney rather than LPAs, gives a spouse and children automatic legal rights over part of an estate, and settles estates through Confirmation rather than probate. Northern Ireland still uses Enduring Powers of Attorney and has no health and welfare equivalent. Serving them properly would mean separate training, separate documents and separate referral networks, and we have chosen to be genuinely expert in one jurisdiction instead. If your clients would be based in either nation, we are not the right fit.
You flag it and refer it. Foreign property, foreign domicile and overseas accounts raise questions of which country's succession law applies, and that is a matter for a solicitor with the right expertise. Spotting it is your job. Solving it is not.
LifeWise provides marketing systems, campaign materials, a branded local page and workshop resources, and will direct relevant enquiries to territory planners where they arise. You are still responsible for building your own client base. Anyone promising you a full diary is selling you something.
They are your clients. You hold the relationship and you are the data controller for their information, which is why ICO registration matters. The specific terms are set out in your agreement.
Client information is held in the LifeWise secure vault rather than in spreadsheets on your laptop. Access, retention and sharing are covered in your data protection training, and you are responsible for following it.
